Our lab is generally interested in the evolution of color vision in insects. We study butterflies, moths, bees and flies by combining molecular, physiological and evolutionary studies of the rhodopsin gene family. The patterns of gene duplication and functional diversification we are studying provide a framework for understanding how sensory systems evolve. Our research is currently supported by the National Science Foundation (IBN-0082700 and IOS-0819936).
